DAISY and BEE Awards Now Available at All Ambulatory and Outpatient Locations
The DAISY and BEE award programs are now available in all ambulatory and outpatient areas, offering the opportunity for our staff, patients and guests to nominate care team members in these settings.
Prior to this rollout, the awards were available for employees only in inpatient areas.
“We are so excited that we are able to provide this opportunity for our ambulatory and outpatient employees to be recognized,” said Becky Fritz, clinic practice director and a founding member of the committee that implemented the awards. “These awards are well respected and well earned.”
How the DAISY and BEE Awards Work
The DAISY Award (short for "Diseases Attacking the Immune System”) is open to R.N.s and L.P.N.s, while the BEE Award (for "Being Excellent Everyday") is open to all other team members in our ambulatory and outpatient areas. The awards are based on:
- Compassionate care
- Service excellence
- Demonstration of Carilion’s core values
An online nomination form, plus a printable flyer with a QR code and a printable write-on flyer, are available from our on-demand ordering Document Center. These flyers will also be available at practice locations. You may also use the flyers below in the downloads section and print at your location.
Award recipients will be chosen by a voting council made up of a cross-section of team members working in various levels and roles from the departments of:
- Behavioral Health
- Family and Community Medicine
- Medicine
- Orthopaedics
- Pediatrics
- Neurosurgery
- Surgery
- Women's Services
All nominees will receive notice of their nomination. There will be one DAISY and one BEE Award presented per quarter. Award winners will receive a certificate, pin and trophy during an on-site celebration of their exceptional service.
About the DAISY and BEE Awards
The DAISY Award was established by The DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of a rare autoimmune disease. The Barnes family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this national award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
The name for the BEE Award honors the relationship between nursing and other members of the care team—the same way bees and flowers depend on one another. The BEE Award recognizes excellence among the support team members who work alongside our nursing teams to deliver skillful, compassionate care.
Please be on the lookout for exceptional service and nominate a deserving team member! The first award recipients will be announced on the Wow Wall in December.
