Construction Update: CRMH Renovations

Update Aug. 26: We’re preparing for CRMH renovations that will impact portions of the hospital lobby at various times. From now through Sept. 5, please follow the posted signs and any instructions from our Guest Services and Police/Security staff to help you navigate.

Following the partial closure of Belleview Avenue last week, we’ve continued to receive questions and feedback and are working to keep our teams, visitors and patients informed of the latest.

We know that the short notice for the closure was difficult and caused challenges.

This was an unplanned closure that we made out of an abundance of caution to keep staff, patients, visitors and the public safe. Multiple teams are working to address concerns and improve flows based on your feedback.

BACKGROUND:

The closure is for construction to address signs of wear of the West Pavilion’s brickwork typical for a facility of this age. Our top priority is safety, and planning for a project like this is complex and takes time.

The road closure will likely last at least six months as we remove and replace the brickwork. We will share details as they are finalized.   

ACTIONS TAKEN:

Carilion teams are collaborating with the city to implement additional detour signage ASAP. Google also now has the street closure marked, which will help those navigating to the facility.

You can find updated resources available for download below, including: 

• A detour map, which has also been shared on our website and social media.
• Scripting for directions to navigate to the Terrace View Garage and the North Entrance.
• A campus map that includes all parking garages is also available online.

Guest Services has increased the frequency of shuttles to garages, including to the new McClanahan Garage for additional parking access. Shuttles for parking garages will also begin extended hours on July 14, running from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. In the coming days, additional shuttle signage will be posted at the Riverwalk and McClanahan Garages, informing guests to call a number for service.

NEXT STEPS:

This work is fluid. You’ll continue to see changes to wayfinding and updated precautions. Your feedback has been invaluable, and we will work to provide as much notice as possible as the project evolves.
