Building Momentum for Heart Health
Heart Month is a good time to remind ourselves about the importance of staying active to maintain a healthy heart.
It’s no secret that exercise is good for overall health. It helps us think, feel, sleep and perform daily tasks better.
As health care workers, we offer heart-healthy advice to patients every day. It's essential that we also make time in our busy days to benefit from that advice as well--especially the benefits of regular exercise.
Exercising regularly can help to:
- Lower blood pressure
- Raise good (HDL) cholesterol
- Lower bad (LDL) cholesterol
- Improve stress management
The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes (about two and a half hours) of moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week, plus muscle-strengthening activity at least two days per week.
