Accessing Carilion Resources From Home

Submitted by abshaver on

As we continue our response to COVID-19 within our organization, we are developing a plan for employees who may need to work remotely. If we need many employees to work remotely, this may require a phased approach. We will communicate policies and processes for remote work as soon as we have them in place.

Meanwhile, some employees may already be working remotely. If you are working from home, please keep the following things in mind:

  • At this time, we ask that employees do not remove Carilion desktop computers or telephones from Carilion sites. These devices are not configured to work outside the Carilion network and will not work as expected from your home. If you have already removed a desktop computer or telephone, we ask that you return it to its original location as soon as possible.
  • Review the Remote Work Eligibility Criteria to determine whether you meet the technical and logistical requirements to work from home.
  • We are finalizing additional asset configurations to facilitate remote work. These configurations will be necessary to ensure Carilion assets perform optimally outside of our network and that all information security protocols are in place to protect our patient and organizational data.
  • If you have a Carilion Clinic laptop or mobile device and currently use it for remote work, you may continue to do so. You may use the Carilion Apps Portal to access many Carilion resources from any computer that is connected to the internet.
  • If you take Carilion Clinic equipment home, in the coming days your manager will ask you to complete an Asset Tracking Form and sign a Work Confidentiality and Security Policy Acknowledgement form.
  • TSG will be working closely with the Incident Management Team and organizational leadership to assess operational continuity plans and remote work requirements.
  • We have created a Resources for Working From Home page on Inside Carilion with educational resources for working from home. The page will be available from the Resources tab on the Coronavirus hub,
