Microsoft Teams Basic Features


Can non-Carilion participants share video or content in a Carilion Teams meeting? 

Yes, all capabilities are supported for both Carilion and non-Carilion attendees.


How do I create a "team" in Teams?  

First, note that the ability to create a team isn’t enabled for everyone; it is enabled for managers and above.

To obtain permission to become a Team Owner their manager needs to submit a request through Edison. 


Do non-Carilion participants need to have Teams to participate in a Carilion Teams meeting? 

No, Teams is a cloud-based application that only requires clicking the link to the meeting in the email invite.
Invitees don’t need to have Teams installed to attend.


How many users can be in a Teams meeting at one time?

Up to 300, and this number may increase in the future.
If you need to have a meeting with a large group, consider using a LIVE EVENT.


Can people participate in a Teams meeting by phone? 

Yes.

Microsoft Teams has a mobile app with full audio, video, and content sharing capabilities.

You may also be able to add a call-in option for an audio-only connection using in the meeting invitation. 

Some staff have a license to add the call-in number, but not everyone.
If you want to request a call-in number, submit a request through Edison. 


How do I add a call-in number and PIN to my meeting invitation?

If there is a business need, you can request an Audio conferencing license using an ARF.

Where do you go to adjust settings for a Teams meeting?

If you are scheduling a meeting in Outlook, do the following:

  1. On the meeting scheduling screen, to make this a virtual meeting in Microsoft Teams, click Teams Meeting.
    When you make it a Teams meeting, a number of elements are added to the message body.
  1. Click Meeting options.

I don’t have the button in Outlook to create a Teams meeting. How do I get it?

You can submit an Edison request or contact the TSC to have someone install the Teams plugin for you.

Or you can install the Teams plugin yourself. For instructions, click HERE.


Is there a way to mute attendees upon entry?

While Webex has a mute upon entry setting, Teams handles this differently.

  • In Meeting Options, you can turn off Allow attendees to unmute.  
    or
  • You can manually mute people as they arrive by clicking the Mute all button.
